The Maccabees Declare Excitement For Reading and Leeds Festival

The Maccabees have expressed their excitement at being named headliners of the NME/Radio 1 Stage at this year’s Reading and Leeds festivals. The Brighton-based five-piece were named alongside At The Drive In and Justice as headliners on the ever-popular second stage, and are prepared to “be all over it” by the time that the August festival arrives.
Speaking to NME about the prospect, singer Orlando Weeks said: "It's an honour to be so high up the bill. I'm really looking forward to it. By then we should have got our stuff together and be all over it. We should have everything ready by then."
The band released their critically-acclaimed third LP ‘Given To The Wild’ in January this year, but confessed that they are still working out the exact details of fitting new songs into their festival set.
Weeks continued: "We'll be getting the set right and remembering how to do festivals. It's been a little while, so it will be a big occasion for us. Trying to fit them [the new songs] into the set isn't the easiest thing, we've got the ones from the two records before and we're trying to make it feel like it builds and goes somewhere."
No strangers to the popular double festival, the band went on to describe some of their fondest Reading and Leeds moments, saying: "We played one of the tents once and it seemed like people had just figured out how to do this particular thing where you held someone aloft by their feet and you had these perfect silhouettes of people. Right at the start I got a flashlight right in the face, so for the next hour all I could do was blink and see these silhouettes. It was a nice way to savour the memory."
Reading and Leeds festival will take place on August 24th-26th, where The Cure, Kasabian, and Foo Fighters will perform as main headliners.
