Cardiff's Eight At The Gate Festival Set To Debut

Wednesday, 28 August 2013 Written by Huw Baines

On August 29, the first edition of the Eight At The Gate Festival will take over the Gate Arts Centre in Cardiff. Featuring 12 bands across three nights, the event is set to show another side to the Welsh capital's rapidly developing music scene.

Taking the stage on opening night are Under the Driftwood Tree, the Brwmys, Kymo and Thoby Davis, with Ragsy, Dave Morris and the Knock, Ellie Makes Music and Luca Hill following suit at the 350-capacity venue on August 30.

The final evening's entertainment will be provided by Johnny Cage and the Voodoogroove, the Lost and Found, Sion Russell Jones and Ampersand.

The event has been laid on by Gated Music, a community initiative designed to teach young musicians new skills in order to further their careers in the industry.

The Gate Arts Centre itself will only be covering running costs for the event, allowing the artists themselves to make money on any tickets sold for their respective shows.

“It’s a great honour and a privilege to be a part of Eight at The Gate at The Gate Arts Centre," Ragsy said. "As an artist and musician I know what a struggle it can be to try and get your music noticed and play amazing venues like The Gate. What a fantastic opportunity.”
