Thrash icons Metallica are set to storm Europea next summer, having confirmed a appearances at Germany's Sonisphere festival, Rock am Ring and Rock im Park. The multi-platinum, award-winning band are also heavily rumoured for the returning UK Sonisphere, set to take place at Knebworth in July next year.
As a special tribute to the fans, Metallica have made these new European dates an All Request Show, a first for the band. Fans who purchase tickets online to these upcoming European dates will be invited to vote on the set list Metallica will play at their show - giving them the chance to help build their dream set list from over 30 years of music. Metallica's traditional 18-song set will include the 17 top voted songs with the 18th slot being reserved for a brand new song.
Speaking about the new dates, band drummer Lars Ulrich says:
"We are once again psyched to break free of the four walls in the studio to get energized by our devoted European friends for a couple of weeks next May and June. On top of that, the fact that all our nutty fans will pick the songs we play should be some next level fun and take a big load off my shoulders as the guy who usually writes the set list!"
Fans will be able to visit metallica.com to see what songs fellow fans are voting for and the results of their specific shows.
The first announced show will take place in Hamburg, Germany on June 4 with additional dates announced in Nuremberg, Germany and Nürburgring, Germany. Tickets for the Nuremberg and Nürburgring dates will go on-sale today, Wednesday November 27. Tickets for the Hamburg date will go on sale on Friday, November 29 at 10am.
