U2 Announce 'The Joshua Tree' North American And European Tour

U2 will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their fifth studio album, 'The Joshua Tree', with a North American and European tour, on which they will play the record in full each night.
The first three dates of the tour, in Vancouver, Seattle and Santa Clara, will be opened by Mumford & Sons, while shows from May 20 to June 7 and June 18 to 28 will see them supported by the Lumineers, and on June 11, 14 and July 1 the opening act will be One Republic. The tour will also include a headline slot at Bonnaroo Festival.
The European leg of the tour will kick off on July 8 at London's Twickenham Stadium, before heading to Berlin, Rome, Barcelona, Dublin, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels. Support will come from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.
Tickets for the UK, Ireland and Europe will go on general sale at 9.00am on January 16, while tickets for the US and Canada will be available on January 17.
Frontman Bono said:
“Recently I listened back to 'The Joshua Tree' for the first time in nearly 30 years… it’s quite an opera. A lot of emotions which feel strangely current, love, loss, broken dreams, seeking oblivion, polarisation… all the greats… I’ve sung some of these songs a lot… but never all of them. I’m up for it, if our audience is as excited as we are… it’s gonna be a great night. Especially when we play at home. Croke Park… it’s where the album was born, 30 years ago.”
Guitarist The Edge added:
“It seems like we have come full circle from when 'The Joshua Tree' songs were originally written, with global upheaval, extreme right wing politics and some fundamental human rights at risk. To celebrate the album – as the songs seem so relevant and prescient of these times too - we decided to do these shows, it feels right for now. We’re looking forward to it.”
