Timmy Matley has died aged 36.

The BBC reports that the Overtones' lead singer was diagnosed with a form of skin cancer two years ago. He passed away suddenly on April 9, with a cause of death not yet confirmed.

The vocal group, who were due to head out on a UK tour this summer, have issued a statement. Read it below.

"It is with the greatest sadness that we have to announce that our dear friend and brother Timmy has passed away. We know this news will be as heartbreaking for you all as it is for us. We appreciate your love and support at this difficult time.

The group formed in 2010 and in the same year put out their debut album, ‘Good Ol' Fashioned Love’, which hit #4 in the UK Albums Chart. Their latest release was last year's ‘Happy Days’ EP.

They have not yet announced if their upcoming tour dates will go ahead.
