The Joy Formidable Unveil Psychedelic Video For New Single The Wrong Side

Tuesday, 07 August 2018 Written by Jon Stickler

The Joy Formidable have released a video for the new single from their upcoming fourth studio album, 'AAARTH'.

The Wrong Side follows the previously shared Dance of the Lotus and is a lurching giant of a track that pairs a robust backbone with a soaring vocal melody. Speaking about the track's accompanying video, bassist and vocalist Rhydian Davies said:

"This is our second collaboration with [Boston-based creative studio] TRLLM. We love their imagination and, like all our favourite artists, they’re not afraid to make it weird. They had the background to the song, how lyrically it’s pieced like a collage from memories and snippets of time, and they used that, along with the album artwork to create this experimental, multi-coloured dream sequence that we think captures the essence beautifully."

Earlier this summer, the band announced that they would be returning on September 28 with the follow up to 2016's 'Hitch' via Hassle Records, with accompanying in-stores at Rough Trades in Nottingham, Bristol and London.

They also play headline shows in London and Cardiff prior to their sets at Reading and Leeds towards the end of this month, followed by US dates supporting the Foo Fighters in early September.

The Joy Formidable Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows

Wed August 22 2018 - LONDON Lexington
Thu August 23 2018 - CARDIFF Clwb Ifor Bach

Jeff Tweedy - WARM (Album Review)
Thu 13 Dec 2018
Jeff Tweedy’s first collection of solo songs adds up to a gentile album of warm Americana that stumbles along in joyous reverie and elegant inebriation. It’s a fine turn from the Wilco frontman, whose band’s 25 year musical catalogue has sometimes fallen flat, but whose previous album—2016’s ‘Schmilco’—seemed to reinvigorate and freshen their sound. These good vibes have continued on 'Warm'.
I Feel Like We Only Just Got Here: How Hop Along Fell Into Place On 'Bark Your Head Off, Dog'

td#right {display:none !important;} Illustration: Sam Davies   The train is late. The trains are always late. Table the lost minutes. I absent-mindedly scroll Twitter in a glass shelter as the December cold gets its claws in. Before skipping over a review of the latest Jungle Book remake I’m stopped mid-feed by an autoplay video. Julia Roberts dances in a subway carriage for the New York Times. She grins, the plastic chairs smile back with yellow and orange teeth. The sound is off—my headphones are still playing Hop Along’s Not Abel. The weird thing is, that song won’t yield the floor. Instead it steps in to lead.

Fans of AFI, and perhaps rock fans in general, have always struggled with a sprawling, multifaceted idea that the writer L.P. Hartley put beautifully in his novel The Go-Between: “The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there."
