SWMRS Share New Single Berkeley's On Fire And Announce Third Annual Uncool Halloween Festival

Monday, 20 August 2018 Written by Jon Stickler

SWMRS have returned with a new single and video, Berkeley's On Fire.

The track looks set to feature on the Bay Area quartet's follow up to 'Drive North', which was released through Fueled By Ramen/Atlantic in 2016. The record served as the band's first studio album and second release as SWMRS after they changed their name in late 2014.

The punks have also shared an accompanying music video for the track, directed by Stanley Kalu and Andrea Granera. Discussing it, frontman Cole Becker said:

"I wrote this song about the very strange feeling of participating in what the television was calling a riot, but looking around and seeing things much differently. I wanted Stanley and Andrea to think about how we live in this dual world, where often what we see on screens feels more realistic than our actual lived experiences. The effectiveness of that duality, and it's perceived realness seemed to hang in the balance of how anxious we are about the future. While the video takes its jabs at the far right losers who showed up on campus that day to incite violence and infighting, we mostly tried to place the viewer in that same moment of being unsure of whether the world around you actually is falling apart, or if you're just tripping on your anxiety for the future."

The band have also shared details of their third annual Uncool Halloween Festival, which will take place on October 27 at the UC Theatre in Berkeley, California, with performaces from Bleached, Mt. Eddy, Beach Goons, Destroy Boys and Small Crush.

SWMRS are currently touring the UK and Europe and will appear at Reading and Leeds next weekend, followed by headlining shows at Southampton's Joiners and Electrowerkz in London on August 27 and August 28. Tickets are on sale now.

SWMRS Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows
