Julien Baker and Matt Berninger, along with the film composer Stephan Altman, have teamed up for a single in aid of Planned Parenthood.
All I Want is the latest in a curated series of 7" releases, ‘Volume 2 Part 1', and is out now. The proceeds will go towards protecting access to basic health care in the US including STD tests and treatment, birth control, and cancer screenings. Previous contributors have included Foo Fighters, John Legend, St Vincent, Chvrches, Bon Iver, and more.
All I Want is atmospheric and brooding, with contrasting call-and-response vocals from Baker’s high, smooth tone and the gruff, lower pitched melodies from the frontman of the National. Underneath, soft piano chords are accompanied by a bass clarinet.
Its b-side is the spoken word piece Defiance, Ohio Is The Name Of A Band by Hanif Abdurraqib. Take a listen below, and find out more about the Planned Parenthood project here.
