Alexisonfire have returned with a new track, Familiar Drugs.

The band split in 2011 and reunited in 2015 for a number of summer festivals, and again in 2018 for a set at Download festival and headline London show at the O2 Academy Brixton. Their last album was 2009's 'Old Crows / Young Cardinals', while their last release was the 2012 EP 'Death Letter'.

The new single was produced by the band's longtime friend Karl Bareham and mixed by Grammy-award winning Jacquire King. It finds the band exploring a different direction, incorporating elements of classic rock and alternative metal into the post-hardcore fold. Those not comfortable with the new moves may be put at ease by the vocals, which see Dallas Green's falsetto complementing George Pettit's guttural screams as well as ever.

“‘Familiar Drugs’ is about recognising you need to make a change in your life, being presented with the opportunity to make that change, and then choosing to do the same thing you always do," said Pettit. "It’s about something very specific to me but it can be taken literally or interpreted in any number of ways. Most people have something in their lives they can’t quit, substances, unhealthy relationships, lethargy, self righteousness, a job they hate. ‘Familiar Drugs’ is about choosing comfort over self betterment."

Alongside the new track, the band have announced four summer headline shows, including a stop at London's Alexandra Palace on June 1. They will also call at Terminal 5 in New York on June 8, the Wiltern in Los Angeles on June 13 and the Budweiser Stage in Toronto on June 15. Tickets for all dates go on general sale at 10am local time on February 22.

Head to Alexisonfire's Facebook page tonight at 8pm (EST), 1am (GMT) to watch the band perform at the House of Strombo in Toronto.

td#right {display:none !important;} Photograph: Gareth Jarvis It’s been 20 years since Taking Back Sunday formed on Long Island, New York. From where we stand right now, we can look back over two decades of thrills, spills, emo classics, mosh pits, long hair, short hair, loud guitars and unadulterated singalongs that helped define the listening habits of a generation. Such a milestone is worth celebrating, and these guys know the perfect way to do so.
