Billie Marten Announces New Album 'Feeding Seahorses By Hand', Confirms UK And Ireland Tour

Billie Marten has announced a new album.
‘Feeding Seahorses By Hand’ is due for release on April 26 through Sony/Chess Club Records. She’ll accompany the record with a tour of the UK and Ireland, landing in Birmingham, Glasgow, Dublin, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol and London in June. Tickets go on sale at 10am on March 22.
The new album follows on from the indie-folk musician's 2016 debut ‘Writing of Blues and Yellows’. Its lead single, Betsy, is a vaguely political song with a similar laid-back production style to early Sharon Van Etten or Julia Jacklin’s 'Crushing'. Marten said:
“It was the first time I’d tried jamming with someone and had the pressure of writing instant, spontaneous lyrics. They poured out actually, it’s about confronting a politician, no one in particular, but sort of ridiculing them. I liked the idea of using number 9 instead of 10. I didn’t want the big political stance, and I didn’t want to single out a specific human, it’s representing parliament as a whole institution really. The song turns the wise old politician into a child, infantilising them takes away their power. I think most people feel a bit unsafe with it all, because it’s impossible to relate to these characters. No one shows any personal weakness or empathy, and if they do, they’ve already cracked”.

Billie Marten will accompany Snow Patrol on tour in the US in May, prior to her headline UK shows this summer.
