Vossi Bop, named after a viral dance created by NL Vossi back in 2015, marks the first release from the grime artist since 2017’s chart-topping ‘Gang Signs And Prayer’.
The new tracks finds the MC rapping about city gangs, the stress of touring, London, relationships and politics. “Fuck the government, fuck Boris," he says, and later, "Got holes in my lapels, rubbing shoulders with your girl.”
The accompanying video features a cameo from Idris Elba, as well as some iconic locations across the English capital. Of the highly-anticipated track, Stormzy simply noted: "Turn your speakers up and enjoy!"
A philanthropist, Stormzy recently set up a funding scholarship for black students at Cambridge University, as well as his record label, #Merky Records — ready to sign emerging talent, and also a collaboration with Penguin Random House to look for the best writers of the next generation. He released his own book, Rise Up: The Story So Far, through them in November.
Stormzy will headline Glastonbury Festival this summer, as well as Belfast’s Belsonic and Glasgow’s TRNSMT.
Stormzy Upcoming Tour Dates are as follows
Thu June 20 2019 - BELFAST Ormeau Park
Fri July 12 2019 - GLASGOW Green
