The Hold Steady will release a new album this summer.
'Thrashing Thru The Passion' is due out on August 16 and will feature five new tracks that were recorded earlier this year and five that have previously been released digitally.
Frontman Craig Finn, who spoke to Stereoboard in April about his new solo album 'I Need A New War', introduced the band's new record with a sizeable statement that discussed how he believed their current line up was the best they'd ever had, as well as their new approach to touring and releasing new music.
Alongside the album announcement, the Hold Steady have shared its opening track. Denver Haircut is an infectiously upbeat heartland rock song rife with one-liners that finds Finn on form. "It doesn’t have to be pure, it doesn't have to be perfect, just sort of has to be worth it," he sings. Finn said:
“’Denver Haircut’ is a story about a guy who has chance meet up that takes him to a few different locations before leaving him alone and cashless in a strange hotel room.
“Steve Selvidge (guitarist) brought in the music to this song and everyone felt it immediately, it was really fun to play. The story unfolded quickly too. When recording, we remarked that it sounded like it could kick off an album…and so here we are.”
