The nominees have been announced for the 2019 Welsh Music Prize.
The gong will be handed out at Cardiff’s Coal Exchange on November 27, with Cate Le Bon and Adwaith among the nominees. The former makes the list with her idiosyncratic take on new wave, jazz and contemporary pop, ‘Reward’, while the latter are in the running for their sharp and confident debut, ‘Melyn’
Also in it to win it are Accü and audiobooks, for 'Echo The Red' and ‘Now! (In A Minute)’ respectively, while nominations also go to Carwyn Ellis and Rio 18’s ‘Joia!’, Deyah’s ‘Lover Loner’, ‘You Say I’m Too Much I Say You’re Not Enough’ by Estrons, ‘Inspirational Talks’ by HMS Morris, ‘Gwn Glan Beibl Budur’ by Lleuwen, Lecus J Rowe’s ‘Touchy Love’, ‘Oesoedd’ by Mr, and VRi’s ‘Tŷ ein Tadau’.
Co-founder Huw Stephens commented:
“Every year I’m blown away by the music coming from Welsh artists and the popularity of music made in Wales is just growing and growing. I know it’s always such a difficult decision for our judges to decide. None the less, all of the artists have streams of creativity that will take them onward in today’s music world.”
Last year the prize went to Boy Azooga for their debut LP, ‘1, 2, Kung Fu’.
