Stephen Malkmus Announces New Album 'Traditional Techniques' And Spring North American Tour

Stephen Malkmus has confirmed the details of his new solo album.
The follow-up to 2019's 'Groove Denied' is called 'Traditional Techniques' and is due for release on March 6. It was recorded at Portland’s Halfling Studio, where he made 'Sparkle Hard', his 2018 album with the Jicks.
The new record finds the Pavement frontman experimenting with Afghani instruments and delving into the world of folk-rock, with the help of Chris Funk, engineer and arranger-in-residence at Halfling, and Matt Sweeney on guitar.
Malkmus will support the new album with a spring North American tour, on which he'll be joined by a new band: Funk (pedal steel, keys), Sweeney (guitar), Brad Truax (bass), and Jake Morris (drums), with some accompaniment by Qais Essar (rabab) and Eric Zang (kaval, udu, daf). Tickets go on sale at 10am local time on January 24.
