Former Maccabees Frontman Orlando Weeks Shares Debut Solo Single Safe In Sound

Thursday, 27 February 2020 Written by Jon Stickler

Former Maccabees singer Orlando Weeks has released his first solo single.

Written in early 2018 and titled Safe In Sound, the track has flourishes of jazz along with electronic samples. It serves as first preview of his debut album, which is due later this year, though an official release date and title is still to be confirmed.

The song also marks his first new music since he wrote, illustrated and soundtracked the alternative festive tale The Gritterman in 2017.

Talking about the single, which explores feelings of excitement and anxiety Weeks and his partner experienced while anticipating the birth of their son, he said:

"I was witness to this momentous event in our lives and didn’t want that to go unmarked in the work that I do. I found that writing was a way to anchor moments and cement feelings that we were sharing.

"Throughout that dazzling year, with its steady march towards our son's arrival, I felt grateful to the discipline of working on music for the semblance of structure that it gave me. Musically I wanted to make something that stretched me, something with beauty and intensity."

Weeks will support the release with a previously announced UK tour in March. Tickets are on sale now.
