Nadine Shah Shares Title Track From Forthcoming Album 'Kitchen Sink'

Monday, 20 April 2020 Written by Sophie Williams

Nadine Shah has unveiled the title track of her forthcoming album.

‘Kitchen Sink’ is set to arrive on June 5, marking the singer-songwriter's first full-length release since 2017’s Mercury Prize-nominated Holiday Destination.

Preceded by the previously shared Trad and Ladies For Babies (Goats For Love), the single allows a spareness of instrumentation to throw Shah’s gloriously broad, soulful vocals into relief as she contemplates how an outsider would explore an unfamiliar environment. She said:

"I love kitchen sink dramas and it felt like a fitting backdrop for this character of the outsider to exist within. You can imagine them entering their new neighbourhood, walking the street and one by one, the residents poking their noses through their curtains to get a good look at this person from elsewhere. I see a hell of a lot of curtain twitching these days, during lockdown, but always coupled with a smile or a wave."

Shah will support the record's release over the summer with slots at This Is Tomorrow in Newcastle and Green Man in the Brecon Beacons.
