Sufjan Stevens has shared the B-side from his recent single America.
The contemplative, quietly playful epic My Rajneesh will not feature on Stevens’ new album ‘The Ascension’, instead appearing on a 12” version of America, which is out on July 31.
The track’s title and artwork—a portrait by Stephen Halker—reference the founder of the Rajneesh movement and subject of the Netflix show Wild Wild Country, who was also known as Bhagwan Shri Rajneesh or Osho.
‘The Ascension’ will arrive on September 25 via the American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist’s label, Asthmatic Kitty.
“My objective for this album was simple: Interrogate the world around you,” Sufjan said. “Question anything that doesn’t hold water. Exterminate all bullshit. Be part of the solution or get out of the way. Keep it real. Keep it true. Keep it simple. Keep it moving.”
