Jorja Smith has dropped a new single.
By Any Means is the lead track from Roc Nation’s upcoming project, 'Reprise', a collection of songs of musical protest. A portion of proceeds from the record will be donated to organisations that support victims of police brutality, hate crimes, and other violations of civil rights. Smith said:
"The inspiration behind 'By Any Means' really came from going to the Black Lives Matter protest and leaving thinking, what can I do to keep this conversation going? It’s not just a post on social media, it's life."
The song deals in subtle R&B beats alongside dramatic instrumentation and vocal arrangements that add weight to Smith's poignant social commentary. "I take pride in the things that we’ve done, Side by side in the revolution, Won’t stay silent for things that I love," she sings.
Smith released her Mercury Prize-nominated debut album, 'Lost & Found', in 2018.
