Lifted from the North Carolina singer-songwriter's upcoming album, 'Whole New Mess', the tender Waving, Smiling is a sparse, dreamy number that explores feelings experienced at the end of a relationship.
It comes accompanied by an intimate live performance video shot by Ashley Connor and follows up on the record's previously released title track. Check out the clip below as well as the studio version of the song. Olsen said in a statement:
"Waving, Smiling in my head is the last scene, a slow motion realization of love not lost but at peace somewhere within myself. It's the bittersweet end of a chapter of my life — it is the final acceptance that despite coming to an end all of that time was not lost or wasted."
'Whole New Mess’ is the stripped-down, "skeletal form" of the album that became 2019's 'All Mirrors'. It’s due out on August 28 through Jagjaguwar. Olsen's last solo full-length was her 2012 debut, 'Half Way Home'.
