Sufjan Stevens Posts New Single Sugar

Tuesday, 15 September 2020 Written by Sophie Williams

Sufjan Stevens has unveiled a new single.

The atmospheric Sugar weaves overriding echo and reverb with haunting, harmonising backing vocals and bursts of glitchy beats and rolling drums. Press play below.

The powerfully intricate track will feature on the American multi-instrumentalist’s forthcoming album ‘The Ascension’, which is scheduled to land on September 25 via his label, Asthmatic Kitty.

The new LP will follow this spring's ‘Aporia’, Stevens’s collaborative full-length release with his stepfather Lowell Brams. His last solo record arrived in the form of 2015's ‘Carrie & Lowell’.
