Madonna is getting the biopic treatment.

The pop icon is set to direct and co-write the screenplay for the currently untitled project with Oscar winner Diablo Cody and producer Amy Pascal, according to a press release issued by Universal Pictures

It'll follow Madonna Louise Ciccone's rise to superstardom, including her Catholic upbringing in Bay City, Michigan, her move to New York City and the release of her groundbreaking albums that helped her become the highest-grossing solo touring artist of all time. She said in a statement:

"I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer - a human being, trying to make her way in this world.

"The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It's essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision."

The influential star has previously directed two films: 2008's Filth And Wisdom and 2011 period biopic 'W.E.'. Her acting career includes roles in 1985's Desperately Seeking Susan and 1990's Dick Tracy. She was also nominated for a Best Actress Golden Globe for Evita in 1996.

Madonna teased the news in a recent Facebook post, writing: "Are you ready for the story of my life ... Am I?"

Madonna's latest album came in the form of 2019's 'Madame X'. She also recently featured alongside Missy Elliott on the Blessed Madonna remix of Dua Lipa's song Levitating.
