Nathaniel Rateliff Shares New Song Redemption From Apple Original Film Palmer

Friday, 18 December 2020 Written by Jon Stickler

Nathaniel Rateliff has unveiled a new song, Redemption.

The slow-building ballad's poignant lyrics were penned by the Denver-based soul singer-songwriter for the upcoming Apple Original film Palmer, due out exclusively on Apple TV+ on January 29.

The feature-length was directed by Fisher Stevens and stars Justin Timberlake, Alisha Wainwright and Juno Temple. It tells the story of a high school football star, Eddie Palmer, who tries to start a new life after being incarcerated for 12 years. Rateliff said:

"When I was first asked to write a song for Palmer I was told what the film was about and where the song was going to be used. The melody and the opening line came to me immediately. But it wasn’t until I had a conversation with Justin [Timberlake] that helped me to put the song together. He said the film was about redemption. I saw that in the characters and did my best to add to the scene in the film."

Redemption appears in both the film and its trailer, viewable below. Rateliff's latest full-length, meanwhile, came in the form of 'It's Still Alright', released back in February.
