Monday, 20 December 2021 Written by Jon Stickler

Drakeo The Ruler has died after being stabbed at a Los Angeles music festival.

The 28-year-old, real name Darrell Caldwell, was attacked backstage on Saturday night prior to his scheduled performance at Once Upon a Time at Banc of California Stadium, where stars such as Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, and Ice Cube were also set to play.

His publicist Scott Jawson confirmed the news to several US media outlets on Sunday morning: "I can confirm his passing but am in shock and unable to share any further details at this time. I'll be releasing a statement from his family as soon as we're able."

The L.A. Times reported that the local police were investigating, but told reporters no arrests had been made. The festival was called off after the altercation, with its promoter Live Nation confirming there was an "altercation in the roadway backstage".

"Out of respect for those involved and in co-ordination with local authorities, artists and organisers decided not to move forward with remaining sets so the festival was ended an hour early."

Early in 2021, the West Coast rapper collaborated with Canadian superstar Drake on the single Talk To Me,which appeared on his debut studio album, 'The Truth Hurts'. Throughout this career, the Los Angeles native has also released 10 mixtapes.

Tributes have poured in from the hip hop community, including messages from Drake, Saweetie, Juicy J, Snoop Dogg and more.
