Disclosure And Zedd Team Up For New Single You've Got To Let Go If You Want To Be Free

Friday, 28 January 2022 Written by Jon Stickler

Disclosure and Zedd have teamed up for a new collaboration, You've Got To Let Go If You Want To Be Free.

The light, airy house track marks the first time the two electronic music giants have worked together, and arrives after Zedd took to Instagram last October to share a clip from a studio session with the Latch hitmakers. One half of the sibling duo, Howard Lawrence said:

"Lyrically this song is my coping mechanism for dealing with anxiety. Sometimes you need to remember where you are instead of holding onto where you want to be. Whether you’re socially anxious, too drunk, or even loving life - I hope that you dance to this song and remember that you’re free!"

His brother Guy added: "While I was tinkering with the drums, Howard was coming up with the lyrics and melodies. We all kind of chimed in as to how it should flow, how the structure of this song should rise and fall based off of Anton‘s baseline and built the harmonies on top of that. It pretty much came together in a day as all of our favourite ones seem to do so."

On the team-up with Zedd, they explained: "We have known Anton for several years but never had the opportunity to get in the same room and make some noise together. When the time came, he arrived with one of his analog synthesisers and started jamming on it. He pretty much came up with the whole baseline to the tune in one take playing it by hand which was blowing my mind - it inspired the vibe of the whole song."

Zedd commented: "The entire process of working on this song was incredibly collaborative, creative, inspiring and most importantly FUN. It felt like we were in a band, jamming out and playing off each other’s ideas leading us to a place we wouldn’t have reached on our own."

Disclosure put out the five-track EP 'Never Enough' in 2021, while their last album came in the form of 2020's 'Energy'. Zedd, meanwhile, put out his last album, 'True Colours', in 2015, and since then has released a steady stream of standalone singles.

The siblings have three London dates in the diary for March, followed by shows in Europe and the US later in the spring. In the summer, they'll headline the UK's All Points East and Boardmasters festivals.
