Sharon Van Etten Announces Summer UK And European Darkness Fades Tour, Shares New Single

Sharon Van Etten has announced a UK and European tour for the summer.
The Darkness Fades Tour features stops in London, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow and Dublin between June 17 and 22, following a series of dates across the continent, including an appearance at Primavera Sound, Barcelona. Tickets go on general sale at 10am local time on February 11. Support will come from special guest L'Rain.
Later in the summer, the singer-songwriter will return to North America for shows with Angel Olsen and Julien Baker on The Wild Hearts Tour. Tickets for those gigs are already on sale.
Alongside the news, Van Etten has released the emotional new single Porta, which she penned in 2020 during one of her "lowest lows". It's her first solo material since 2020 and follows her 2021 collaboration with Olsen, Like I Used To. She added:
"For most of my adult life I have struggled with bouts of depression and anxiety and coping mechanisms, and I sometimes let those dark moments get the best of me. During this time I felt very dissociated. Not connected to my body and I felt out of control."
The song continues the singer's synth-rock transformation and finds her leaning less on the guitar and more on electronic fixtures. It was produced by Van Etten and Daniel Knowles, with backing from her live band of drummer Jorge Balbi, guitarist Charley Damski and bassist Devin Hoff. The accompanying video will premiere on YouTube at 5pm GMT today (February 8).
