Cave In have returned with details of their new album.

'Heavy Pendulum' will arrive on May 20, marking the band's first release for Relapse Records, and first with new bassist Nate Newton, also of Converge and Doomriders.

The group's new line-up, completed by Stephen Brodsky, Adam McGrath, and John-Robert Conners, recorded with Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou producing at his God City studio. As a preview, they've dropped the sludgy lead single New Reality, a riffy fusion of post-hardcore and alt-rock. Guitarist and vocalist Brodsky commented:

"Cave In's been around for over 25 years now, and the time has come for an album that scales all of our creative peaks. Talk about a wild and weird ride! And here we are with 'Heavy Pendulum' - it certainly feels like a remarkable event, given the erratic trajectory of our band.

"New Reality was always the lead-off track - that was pretty obvious during the writing process. New line-up, new label, new album... a new reality indeed, and it all adds up to a new lease on life for Cave In."

Head below to view the track's accompanying tongue-in-cheek video, directed by Michael Gilda, along with the LP's artwork by Richey Beckett, and tracklist.

Cave In's last album was 2019's 'Final Transmission', their first without founding bassist and vocalist Caleb Scofield, who died in a car accident the previous year aged 39.
