Soulfly Announce 12th Studio Album 'Totem', Release First Single Superstition

Thursday, 05 May 2022 Written by Jon Stickler

Soulfly have announced their 12th studio album.

The follow-up to 2018's 'Ritual' is called 'Totem' and will arrive through Nuclear Blast Records on August 5. It'll mark the trio's first release without guitarist Marc Rizzo, who parted ways with the band in 2021 citing personal reasons.

Producer and instrumentalist Arthur Rizk has been enlisted to fulfil lead duties. He also helped produce the record alongside frontman Max Cavalera, with tracks recorded at Platinum Underground in Mesa, Arizona with John Aquilino and John Powers.

The LP also boasts appearances from Powers (Eternal Champion), as well as Chris Ulsh (Power Trip), and John Tardy (Obituary). Cavalera said:

"Totem is a celebration of the spiritual nature. It was a two-year journey writing with Zyon. This album is about all the joy, the fun, and the anger in Metal."

As a preview, head below to check out the unbridled first single, Superstition, which runs riot across a fierce, uptempo groovy riff that pummels along with serious animalistic energy. It comes teamed with a lyric video created by Aimed and Framed, with 3D character art by Álvar Gómez Padilla. There's also cover art by James Bosema.

'Totem' tracklist:

1. Superstition
2. Scouring The Vile
3. Filth Upon Filth
4. Rot In Pain
5. The Damage Done
6. Totem
7. Ancestors
8. Ecstasy Of Gold
9. Soulfly XII
10. Spirit Animal
