Carolina is a haunting folk offering that we're sure would go down a storm with Dolly Parton fans. Introducing it online, Swift said:
"About a year and half ago I wrote a song about an incredible story, the story of a girl who always lived on the outside, looking in. Figuratively and literally. The juxtaposition of her loneliness and independence. Her longing and her stillness. Her curiosity and fear, all tangled up. Her persisting gentleness… and the world’s betrayal of it. I wrote this one alone in the middle of the night and then Aaron Dessner and I meticulously worked on a sound that we felt would be authentic to the moment in time when this story takes place. I made a wish that one day you would hear it. ‘Carolina’ is out now [🥺]"
The track will appear in the upcoming film adaption of Where the Crawdads Sing, the 2018 book by American author Delia Owens.The movie is out on July 22 in the UK.
Swift's latest original studio albums are 2020's 'Folklore' and 'Evermore', though last year she released 'Fearless (Taylor's Version)' and 'Red (Taylor's Version)' as part of her ongoing project of re-recording albums from her earlier discography, after their rights were sold by her previous label without her blessing.
