Monday, 30 January 2023 Written by Jon Stickler

The Who have announced their Hits Back! Tour for the summer.

Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and band will be accompanied by a full orchestra for performances at the Sewell Group Craven Park in Hull, Edinburgh Castle, The O2 in London, The Incora County Ground in Derby, Bristol's Badminton Estate, Durham's Seat Unique Riverside, St Helens' Totally Wicked Stadium and The 1st Central County Ground in Brighton during July.

Support will come from UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, except in Edinburgh and London. Tickets go on general sale at 10am on February 3.

Each night will see the group perform music from throughout their career, including material from classic albums 'Tommy' and 'Quadrophenia', and their latest full-length, 'WHO', released in 2019. Daltrey commented:

"Having not toured the UK for six years, it's great that at this time of our careers we have the chance to go to places that are not on the usual touring map Edinburgh Castle and Derby, as well as the other cities across the country that we haven’t been to for decades, will make this very special for me. This opportunity will give our UK Who fans the chance to hear our current show, which, with the addition of an orchestra, takes our music to new heights."

Townshend added: "Roger initially christened this tour with an orchestra Moving On! I love it. It is what both of us want to do. Move on, with new music, classic Who music, all performed in new and exciting ways. Taking risks, nothing to lose. I’m really looking forward to bringing this show to the UK."

The Who's full live band currently features guitarist and backing singer Simon Townshend, keyboardist Loren Gold, second keyboardist Emily Marshall, bassist Jon Button, drummer Zak Starkey and backing vocalist Billy Nicholls, along with orchestra conductor Keith Levenson, lead violinist Katie Jacoby and lead cellist Audrey Snyder.

Alongside news of the tour, the band have confirmed that they'll release the live album 'The Who With Orchestra Live At Wembley', recorded during their 2019 show at the iconic stadium, on March 31.
