Speedy Ortiz Announce First Album In Over Five Years 'Rabbit Rabbit', Share New Single You S02

Speedy Ortiz have announced their first album in over five years.
The follow-up to 2018's 'Twerp Verse' is called 'Rabbit Rabbit' and will arrive on September 1 via singer Sadie Dupuis' own label Wax Nine. Sarah Tudzin of Illuminati Hotties co-produced the record with the band. It's also the first to feature longtime touring members Audrey Zee Whitesides (bass) and Joey Doubek (drums).
Alongside the news, the Philadelphia-based group have shared the new track You S02, which deals in their trademark pop-leaning psychedelic rock sound, and follows the April single Scabs.
"Mostly when I’ve met my musical heroes, they’re kind and principled people," Dupuis explained. "But occasionally someone whose work I love(d) reveals themselves to be anti-union, or anti-’woke,’ or some other gear-grinding ugliness. That’s who I wrote ‘You S02’ about, the song’s frenzied guitar and synth solos mirroring the crazymaking intensity wafting off people who act like that."
"In the TV show You's second season, the main character moves from New York to LA in hopes of a fresh start, but (spoiler) remains a murdering psychopath. Changing cities won’t make you a hero if you still treat others badly."
Head below to view the accompanying video, directed by Elle Schneider and shot in the deserts of Joshua Tree, California. "It was freezing out,” Dupuis remembered. "Southern California was experiencing unseasonal snow—but the low temps fit the bill for a video about how revenge is best served cold (in a non-heated swimming pool)."
They'll support the LP with US tour dates beginning in Chicago on July 28, with dates scheduled across the country throughout the remainder of the year, wrapping up in New York in December.
