Strawbs Confirm July Release For New Album 'The Magic Of It All'

Wednesday, 07 June 2023 Written by Jon Stickler

Strawbs have announced a new album.

The British prog veterans will return on July 14 with 'The Magic Of It All', featuring new songs recorded at the Academy Of Sound Engineering in Cape Town, South Africa. Check out the cover art above, and the tracklist below.

Set to arrive via Cherry Red UK via Esoteric Recordings, the LP will serve as a companion release to a documentary of the same, exploring Strawbs' influence throughout the world.

Due out the same day as the record, the film is by South African filmmaker Niel van Deventer, and will look at Strawbs songs, specifically Part Of The Union, Lay Down, and New World, and their effect on the struggle for freedom in South Africa 50 years ago.

The group, comprising the classic 1970's line-up of David Cousins, Blue Weaver and John Ford, along with other musicians and singers from South Africa, worked on the record alongside engineer Peter Pearlson, who previously collaborated with Paul Simon while recording South African musicians for Simon's 1986 album 'Graceland'.

Strawbs will play Oxfordshire's Fairport's Cropredy Convention in August.

1. Ready (We Are Ready)
2. The Magic of it All
3. All Along the Bay
4. Everybody Means Something to Someone
5. Our World
6. The Time Has Come (for Giving Back)
