Grandaddy Announce New Album 'Blu Wav', Share Lead Single Watercooler

Grandaddy have a new album on the way.
'Blu Wav' is scheduled to arrive on February 16 via Dangerbird Records and marks the indie-rock giants' first full-length release in seven years.
The record was conceived while frontman Jason Lytle was driving through the Nevada desert listening to the radio and Patti Page's Tennessee Waltz came on. Its sound comes from Lytle's idea of fusing the simplicity of bluegrass waltz lyricism with the electronic elements of new wave and band's familiar indie-rock.
Head below to stream the first single, Watercooler, which offers woozy pedal-steel and spacey synths, combining the two previously mentioned genres. It comes with a karaoke-themed video directed by Aaron Beckum. Lytle said:
"Most of my relationships have involved girls who worked in office settings. This song is about the end of one, or perhaps a few, of those relationships. Listeners will also notice the pedal steel on this track and eventually on many others from the forthcoming new album. It’s a first for Grandaddy, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about this fact."
The record follows up 2017's 'Last Place'. It's also the band’s first LP since the death of bassist Kevin Garcia that same year.
