The Dirty Nil have announced their fifth studio album.

'The Lash', the follow-up to 2023's 'Free Rein To Passions', will arrive through Dine Alone Records on July 25. Taking a more raw and stripped back approach, the Canadian punk duo completed the record in just over two weeks, with burgeoning producer and engineer Vince Solveri behind the control desk.

Comprising 10 tracks, a lot of the new material was influenced by a trip vocalist-guitarist Luke Bentham took to the Vatican. He explained:

"I was in a very dusty part of the basement, and they had these crazy bronze reliefs that were some of the most brutal things I’ve ever seen. There was a particular one called The Horrors of War. It was two guys fighting over a knife. That image ended up guiding a lot of this record."

As a preview, the band have shared the opening track, Gallop Of The Hounds, which serves up punk-rock energy and hard rock swagger amid catchy anthemic hooks, setting the tone for the rest of the album. Check it out below, alongside the LP's old school cover art by UK designer Jack Sabbat.

Earlier this year, The Dirty Nil released the songs True Devotion and I Hate the Internet, though those tracks won't appear on the new record.

The Dirty Nil will support Heart Attack Man on tour across North America this spring and summer, and Spanish Love Songs at UK shows in Birmingham, Manchester and Nottingham between October 22 and 24. They'll also hit the road with Spanish Love Songs, Hot Water Music, Comeback Kid and Joyce Manor for UK and European shows as part of the Common Threads Tour in the autumn. Tickets are on sale now.

'The Lash' tracklist:

1. Gallop of the Hounds
2. Fail in Time
3. That Don't Mean It Won't Sting
4. Rock N’ Roll Band
5. This Is Me Warning Ya
6. Do You Want Me?
7. Spider Dream
8. They Won't Beat Us
9. Hero Narrative
10. I Was A Henchman
