Lorde has returned with her first original solo track in four years.
Teased online by the New Zealand singer for two weeks, What Was That was debuted during her surprise pop-up event in Washington Square Park in New York City on Tuesday night (April 22).
Co-written and co-produced by Lorde, Jim-E Stack and Dan Nigro, the hypnotic, synth-led alt-pop song arrives with a video that features footage shot during the New York event, interspersed with clips of Lorde in various locations around the city.
She released her latest album, 'Solar Power', back in 2021. But despite the new material there's currently no update on a follow-up.
