Circa Waves have announced the second part of their two-album project.
Titled 'Death & Love Pt. 2', the second chapter of the Liverpool band's new 18-track album will arrive on October 24 via Lower Third/[PIAS].
This announcement comes alongside the release of a new single, Cherry Bomb, a breezy, melodic indie-rock offering that's been compared to The Strokes' laid-back anthems. Head below to check out the song's accompanying video, directed by Circa Waves guitarist Joe Falconer. Commenting on the song, frontman Kieran Shuddal explained:
"It’s all about that person who would do anything for you. Jump into a fight for you, take you for a beer when you’re down… we all need a cherry bomb in our life."
Produced by Shuddall and recorded across two London studios, a friend’s space in Finsbury Park and the revered RAK Studios, Circa Wales released 'Death & Love Pt. 1' earlier in the year. Part one serves up themes of survival and mortality, inspired by Shudall’s emergency heart surgery that saved his life in 2023, while part two leans into euphoria and rebirth.
Shuddall revealed: "I’d written so much stuff after all the heart incident stuff – there was a release of creativity. There were more songs than I’d ever written before, in one furious writing period."
He added: "This album feels like the more optimistic part of the two records. It almost feels like if the first record was before the operation and death and fear of dying, then one is coming through the other side. It’s about love, life, survival and euphoria."
Circa Waves will play a special album launch party, billed It's A Matter Of Death & Love, in London at Signature Brew, Haggerston on July 16. They'll also appear at Victorious Festival in Portsmouth on August 23, and support The Wombats at the Rock N Roll Circus series in Sheffield on August 28. Tickets are on sale now.
