Austra Announces New Album 'Chin Up Buttercup' With First Single Math Equation

Austra, the pop project of singer and composer Katie Stelmanis, has announced her fifth studio album.
The Canadian artist will release 'Chin Up Buttercup' through Domino on November 14, following up 2020's 'HiRUDiN', though she did share a score for the ballet documentary Swan Song in 2023.
Co-produced with Kieran Adams, the record delves into the emotional fallout of a sudden breakup Stelmanis went through in early 2020, when her long-term partner hit her with some unexpected news. "I was completely blindsided … the person I loved woke up one day, told me she wasn’t happy, and I basically never saw her again," she said.
To coincide with the album announcement, Stelmanis has released its first single, Math Equation, which serves up a Eurodance vibe with hypnotic beats, drawing inspiration from Madonna's 1998 album 'Ray Of Light'. Head below to view the song's accompanying video, directed by Trevor Blumas.
