Ace Frehley has died aged 74.
According to a press release, the KISS guitarist "passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Morristown, New Jersey, following a recent fall at his home." His family shared the below statement:
“We are completely devastated and heartbroken. In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers and intentions as he left this earth. We cherish all of his finest memories, his laughter, and celebrate his strengths and kindness that he bestowed upon others. The magnitude of his passing is of epic proportions, and beyond comprehension. Reflecting on all of his incredible life achievements, Ace’s memory will continue to live on forever!”
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee was born Paul Daniel Frehley in The Bronx, New York on April 27, 1951. He started learning guitar as a teenager and played in a few bands until he teamed up with Peter Criss, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons in the early '70s to form KISS, in which he was known as “Space Ace,” then “The Spaceman.”
As well as releasing 20 albums with KISS, he pursued a solo career, putting out records under his own name and the moniker Frehley's Comet. His latest studio album, '10,000 Volts', came out in February 2024, followed by the live LP 'You Want To Rock & Roll (Live New York '88)' that September.
Frehley is survived by his wife Jeanette, daughter Monique, brother Charles, sister Nancy Salvner, nieces Suncere Frehley and Julie Salvner, nephews Sky Frehley and Andrew Salvner, sister-in-law Michelanne and brother-in-law Ron Salvner.
Since news broke of his passing, there has been an outpouring of tributes from fellow musicians, including his KISS bandmates.
