The Waterboys featuring Steve Earle have announced UK and Ireland shows billed as The Fisherman's Blues Revue. The Waterboys featuring Steve Earle tickets go on general sale at 10am today.
The band will headline Glasgow's OVO Hydro on August 29, Dublin's 3Arena on September 5 and The O2 in London on September 12.
The performances will celebrate music from the band's 'Fisherman's Blues' era of the late '80s, with fiddler Steve Wickham rejoining the group. American singer-songwriter Steve Earle will also appear, performing his own material while contributing vocals, guitar and mandolin to The Waterboys' songs. Waterboys leader Mike Scott said:
"The Fisherman's era was a transcendent time for The Waterboys and it's always exciting to delve into its spirit and see what happens. We'll be performing with an eight-piece band including the mighty Steve Earle who I've wanted to do a project with for many years. He'll bring Americana roots and killer songs to the party, and these promise to be among the best Waterboys shows ever."
Earle added: "I only ever wanted to be in three bands: The Rolling Stones, NRBQ and The Waterboys”.
The shows will follow the release of 'Atlantic Rain', a three-disc set of previously unreleased 'Fisherman's Blues' sessions, due out on July 17 via Chrysalis Records.
The Waterboys, completed by Brother Paul (organ), Famous James (piano), Aongus Ralston (bass), Eamon ferris (drums) and Norwegian petal steel ace Roar Øien, released their latest album, 'Life, Death And Dennis Hopper', in April via Sun Records.
Extra material that didn't make the concept record about the life of the Hollywood actor and rebel, will appear on 'The Waterboys Present: Rips From The Cutting Room Floor', which is due out on December 5.
They'll tour Europe over the coming weeks, followed by shows in Australia and New Zealand in May. They'll also play Salt and Tar's Music Festival in Liverpool in August. Tickets are on sale now.
