Oliver Tree has died aged 32.

The American alt-pop artist and internet personality, born Oliver Tree Nickell, was among six people who died in a helicopter crash over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday (June 14). The city's Military Fire Department said it was called to the crash site around 9am local time (1pm GMT), and authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

Born in Santa Cruz, California, in 1993, Tree rose to fame after going viral on social media in 2016. He was known for hits including Life Goes On, Miss You and Alien Boy, and had recently launched a world tour, billed as The World's First World Tour, with dates planned across all seven continents and over 30 countries.

His most recent show in São Paulo, Brazil, took place on June 6, and he was next scheduled to perform in Lisbon, Portugal on July 1, with UK shows in Glasgow, Manchester and London confirmed for September.

The tour was in support of the multi-hyphenate star's latest album, 'Love You Madly, Hate You Badly', released in April. In 2024, he received a BRIT Award nomination for Miss You, his collaboration with German producer Robin Schulz.
