Editors Announce Eighth Album 'Surface, Echo & Sound' With New Single The Rush

Editors have outlined plans for their eighth studio album.
The follow-up to 2022's 'EBM', their collaboration with electronic producer Blanck Mass, is titled 'Surface, Echo & Sound' and will arrive through Play It Again Sam on October 30.
It finds the Birmingham band taking a more stripped back approach after coming together last summer in the Gloucestershire countryside to write music in the same room for the first time in years, with guitarist Justin Lockey producing the album. Frontman Tom Smith said:
"It was a very productive summer. The sun was out for the most part, we were in greenest Gloucestershire, not far from where I live, on this innocuous little industrial estate – it was pretty much the opposite of being in Berghain!"
Alongside the announcement, the four-piece have shared a new single, The Rush, which pairs their signature atmospheric indie-rock and emotional intensity with a driving rhythm. It's described by Smith as an imagined bar scene of two people talking about life, drinking, and thinking about all the ups and downs. He continued: "That idea of finding comfort in people close to me, friends and loved ones and family, is a theme that comes up all the time. It’s a theme that is in everything to a degree."
The album will also include the band's earlier single, Call It In, released in April.
Following several festival appearances across Europe this summer, as well as a show opening the new Warehouse venue at Villa Park stadium in Birmingham on July 9, Editors will embark on a previously scheduled UK and European tour early next year. Tickets are on sale now.
Since the band's last album, Smith released his debut solo LP, 'There Is Nothing In The Dark Which Isn’t There In The Light', last December and supported it with a UK and European tour in the spring.
