Black Sabbath

Former Black Sabbath singer and acclaimed solo artist Ronnie Dio has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. With the down tuned guitars and wailing vocals Black Sabbath have established themselves as one of the heavyweights of the music world. As one of the founding fathers of heavy metal music they have provided the blueprint for countless groups, inspiring generations.

For those not familiar with Sabbath, here’s a little part of their history. Back in 1978 the band were forced to sack Prince of Darkness singer Ozzy Osbourne due to his increasing unreliability, uncontrollable alcoholism and escalating drug abuse, and after experimenting with a variety of singers, Dio, who had left the band Rainbow, was eventually employed as the front man of Sabbath. An acclaimed artist in his own right, having huge success with Rock n Roll band Rainbow, he rode in on a huge demonic, flame-hoofed, leather-clad steed, (not really, but it would’ve been amazing), and revitalised the bands career. It was during his time with Sabbath that he popularized the famous “devil horns” gesture. Yes, you know the one.

Still working hard touring and writing his autobiography, it has now been revealed that Ronnie Dio is sadly suffering from stomach cancer. In an interview with his wife American website Blabbermouth reports that the singer is currently undergoing treatment.

“Ronnie has been diagnosed with early stages of stomach cancer” she said. “We are starting treatment immediately at the Mayo Clinic. After he kills this dragon, Ronnie will be back on stage, where he belongs, doing what he loves best, performing for his fans” his wife continued. “Long Live rock and roll, long live Ronnie James Dio. Thanks to all the friends and fans from all over the world that have sent well wishes. This has really helped to keep his spirit up.”

If you read this Ronnie, here’s to a speedy recovery and let’s have you back on stage soon!
