REVIEW: TeenagersinTokyo Like a Lil' Goth Disco

TeenagersinTokyo Like a Lil' Goth Disco

Neither from Japan, nor between the ages of 13-19, Aussies TeenagersinTokyo fly into view, or rather, menacingly swoop, with brand new single Peter Pan.

Shrouded in the glittering black cape of Goth disco, the song is a taster from their spring released debut album. Simmering with intensity like a bubbling witches cauldron, the track kicks along with fearsome fight. It’s a curious creation of edgy punk-pop. Creeping in the shadow of The Horrors, they jump out of the dark in their best Siouxsie and the Banshees outfit, snapping with feminine bite like an excited evil child on Halloween.

The song creeps up on you with a dangerous beauty, especially in The Horrors remix. A nice addition to the single, the Goth Men in Black add a robotic 80s disco Daft Punk feel to proceedings. Their clean cut Bauhausian sharpness, leaving an unforgettably sparse and ghostly air.

Peter Pan is a decent teaser, tugging in interest for what’s to come. The TeenagersinTokyo haven’t produced something out of the ordinary here, but this track is sure tick boxes and subtly nod heads across indie dance floors nationwide.
