Athlete Announce Extensive Winter UK Tour & Tickets

South London four-piece Athlete have announced a busy shedule of UK shows for November and December this year.

Comprised of childhood friends, indie-rock band Athlete consist of Carey Willets on bass, Joel Pott on guitar, Steve Roberts on drums and Tim Wanstall on keyboards. Forming in 2000 the band started blending their influences such as Grandaddy and The Flaming Lips whilst jamming in the basement of The Bear pub in Deptford High Street.

Now, four albums and five top 40 singles later Athlete have become one of Britain’s most influential groups. The band didn’t experience high-profile success straight away, with their debut album ‘Vehicles and Animals’ going platinum in 2005, two years after it’s initial release in 2003. The album was also nominated for a Mercury Music Prize.

Second album ‘Tourist’ was much quicker to receive success with the album going straight in at Number One on the UK Album Charts. We all remember the huge success of single “Wires” don’t we? Well the track won the band the Ivor Novello Award in 2006 for “Best Contemporary Song”.

Fresh from last year’s release of ‘Black Swan’, the band’s fouth studio album, Athlete have now announced an extensive UK winter tour kicking off in mid-November rolling through to early December.
