Corinne Bailey Rae is a British soul and R&B singer and songwriter from Leeds, West Yorkshire.

Starting her music career in 1998, she formed the indie band Helen, who were approached by Roadrunner Records to sign a deal, but the band disbanded and she started working as a solo artist. Her break came when she featured on The stiX’s album, ‘better luck next time’, which led her to sign to EMI.

She released her self-titled debut album in 2006, which debuted at #1 on the UK's Official Albums Chart, #4 in the Billboard Hot 100, and spawned the singles Like A Star and Put Your Records On, which reached #2 in the UK Singles Chart. That year she won Best UK Newcomer and Best UK Female at the MOBO Awards.

Her second album, 2010's ‘The Sea’, was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, she released ‘The Love EP’ in 2011, and won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance in 2012. Her third and latest LP, ‘The Heart Speaks in Whispers’, arrived in 2016.
