David Rodigan is an English radio DJ. Known for his selections of reggae and dancehall music, he has played on stations including Radio London, Capital 95.8, Kiss 100, BBC Radio 1Xtra, BBC Radio 2 and BFBS Radio.
His unsinkable passion for reggae music first took a hold of him as a schoolboy when he heard ska music in the early ’60s, and since, for 35 years he has been at the forefront of Britain's reggae dance-halls.
Awards-wise, Rodigan has done exceedingly well: In 2005 he was inducted into the Sony Radio Academy Hall Of Fame, winning three highly coveted Sony Radio Academy Gold Awards, he won Kiss 100's 2004 Music Broadcaster Of The Year, and Specialist Music Broadcaster Of The Year in 2009. He also won BBC Radio 2's Specialist Music Broadcaster Of The Year in 2012, and the same year was awarded the MBE for “services to broadcasting” at Buckingham Palace.
At Easter in 2012 he won the highest honour in reggae sound system culture by winning the World Clash Re-Set contest in New York.
In February 2013 he joined the BBC to present a new weekly reggae show on Radio 1Xtra, and also a summer season of classic ska, rock steady and reggae on BBC Radio 2.
What a career! The acclaimed broadcaster now hosts a live show this summer as part of Somerset House's Summer Series, joined by the Outlook Orchestra. Catch him live by checking out the tour dates and concert ticket information below on Stereoboard.
