Formed in 2003, Newport Dragons RFC are one of four professional rugby outfits established by the Welsh Rugby Union, representing the South-East Wales region.

They play the majority of their home games at Rodney Parade, Newport, with some matches played at other grounds around the area.

In 2022, the club announced their rebranding as Dragons RFC, with their new colours being black and amber to represent the traditional colours of Newport sporting teams.

They compete in the United Rugby Championship and the European Rugby Champions Cup/European Rugby Challenge Cup.
