American folk/country outfit The Civil Wars was formed in 2008, after singer-songwriters Joy Williams and Jon Paul White met at a songwriting session at a studio in Nashville. Kicking off their career with the release of a live EP, the band went on to release one more digital EP - 2009’s ‘Poison & Wine’ - before putting out their debut record ‘Barton Hollow’ in 2011.
The pair probably couldn’t have managed to produce a better debut than ‘Barton Hollow’ if they tried a thousand times over - it topped the US Indie and Folk album charts, hit #10 and #13 in the US and UK respectively, and earned them a TWO Grammys, as well as a Vanguard award.
