The Shins are an American indie-rock band from Albuquerque, New Mexico, currently consisting of frontman and founding member James Mercer, alongside Yuuki Matthews, Jessica Dobson, Joe Plummer, Richard Swift and Nick Teeling.
Formed in 1996, the band released their debut album, ‘Oh, Inverted World’ in 2001, which contains the singles Caring Is Creepy and New Slang, both of which appeared in the 2004 film ‘Garden State’. The band’s second album, ‘Chutes Too Narrow’, came out in 2003, followed by ‘Wincing the Night Away’ in 2007, which hit #2 in the Billboard Hot 200.
The band released their last album, ‘Port of Morrow’ in 2012, which reached #3 in the chart and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. They are set to release their latest album, ‘Heartworms’, in 2017.
The Shins played London’s Eventim Apollo in March in support of ‘Heartworms’, followed by an appearance at Green Man Festival and shows in Nottingham and Manchester in August. They then headed out for a handful of shows in Australia in July too, before heading home to tour the US.
The Shins are back in Australia in December - catch them live by checking out the tour dates and concert ticket information below on Stereoboard.

It’s now nearly a decade since James Mercer cut ties with his bandmates in the Shins and took all creative matters into his own hands. While subsequent records may have left listeners in no doubt as to whether he was the project’s true auteur, they’re also evidence of a misshapen band.
