The Wombats were in Cardiff last night, performing at Cardiff University as part of their current UK tour. Supported by Morning Parade, the Essex band are regarded as one of the most hotly tipped bands for 2011 having just released their second single, ‘A & E’ on Parlophone Records.
The Wombats are currently putting the finishing touches to their upcoming second album in the NRG Recording Studios in Los Angeles. As well as being produced by Eric Valentine (Queens of the Stone Age, Lostprophets), the Liverpool / Oslo trio have also collaborated on the project with super-producer Jacknife Lee (U2, Snow Patrol, R.E.M.).
Although the immediately infectious punky hooks that characterised their debut album are firmly in place, their progression has been characterised with the addition of more leftfield touches and aggressive elements to their sound. The band’s inimitable charm is also prevalent, although it has been streamlined into a darker, more serious approach.
Renowned as one of Britain’s most exciting live bands, The Wombats stormed back to prominence at Cardiff University's Solus last night playing a set packed full of fan favourites as well as previewing material from forthcoming new album 'This Modern Glitch', set for release on 25th April.
