Mersey stars The Christians will be joining Saturday’s line-up. As the prime movers in the soul scene that emerged out of England's North West at the end of the 1980’s, they were originally formed by three brothers Garry, Russell and Roger Christian, the band was simply their surname with absolutely no religious connection.
Along with other iconic bands, they brought a slicker, more sophisticated, soul sound to the charts at the end of that heady decade. Renowned for an acapella sound the band were compared to the Temptations.
Now Garry Christian is back, still sporting the Ray-Bans, the incredibly rich and sultry voice and the string of gorgeous songs that made a million women swoon. “We’re really happy to be part of the first ever Chester Rock, especially as we’re performing with some of the UK’s hottest new talent.”
Expect the hits including Harvest For The World, Words, Hooverville, Forgotten Town and of course, the massive Ideal World.
The Australian Pink Floyd Show, the live touring sensation which has sold over 3 million tickets worldwide will be performing a greatest hits set as they join Sunday’s bill, along with Iggy Pop and the Stooges and Echo and the Bunnymen.
Described by The Sunday Times as ‘The best tribute band in the world,’ whilst the Daily Telegraph rightly described them as being at ‘the top of the tribute band tree.’
The journey has been a long one, since forming in Adelaide back in 1988. They continue to wow the crowds globally and have performed shows at Wembley Arena and the Royal Albert Hall. “It’s all about hard work, great crowds and great music. It is still all about the music, Pink Floyd - and delivering the absolute best performance each and every night” says singer Colin Wilson.
Shaun Ryder will also be performing his greatest hits on the Sunday. Shaun is best known as lead singer for Happy Mondays and Black Grape and more recently as the runner-up of the 2010 version of the TV Show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!
The Happy Mondays were the front runners of the indie-dance scene in the late eighties and early nineties. As legendary for their lifestyle as their unique collision of rave beats, indie rock and street poetry, the biggest surprise is probably that Shaun has even survived this long.
Happy Mondays hits include Wrote For Luck, Hallelujah, 24 Hour Party People, Step On, Loose Fit and Kinky Afro. Whilst 90’s band Black Grape’s debut single Reverend Black Grape was a summer smash, becoming the best-selling single of Ryder's career to date. With their debut album It's Great When You're Straight... Yeah, was hugely successful pushing Black Grape into the Britpop hierarchy.
I Am Kloot will also be joining Sunday’s bill. Formed in Manchester in 1999, I Am Kloot are songwriter John Bramwell, Andy Hargreaves and Peter Jobson. The three piece are renowned for their twisted torch songs and heart-wrenching serenades. 2010 saw the release of their Mercury Music Prize nominated sixth studio album, Sky at Night, which was produced by Craig Potter and Guy Garvey from Elbow.
